Thinking Through Graphic Design History

2025

I wrote and designed this book, which surveys the terrain where graphic design practice and history meet. My goal was to build a bridge between scholarship and practice, by demonstrating how historical research methods can help designers make socially engaged, critical work. Throughout the book, I advocate for what could be called a “social turn” in design history, in which narratives about canonical designers are subordinated to the broader structures from which design emerges.
